The cabinet fondly remember and honour the contributions made by Oommen Chandy to Kerala. Oommen Chandy’s place is among the personalities who could elevate their stature well above the positions that they had been holding.
Oommen Chandy who had made his entry to Congress through KSU and worked in the leadership of the party, the state government and opposition had also played a great role in taking the democratic process forward.
He had made his mark as an administrator who could give ample stress to the people’s welfare, the development of the state and as a prominent leader in the opposition who could effectively present various issues affecting the public. Ever since his election to the Legislative Assembly in the year 1970 from Puthuppally, Oommen Chandy went on to represent the constituency till his demise. Continuing as as an MLA for 53 years, that too by getting elected from the same constituency and remaining undefeated are the records held by Omman Chandy only. He had won consecutively for 12 times. His contributions as minister who held finance as well as home portfolios and as the Chief Minister are commendable. His political contributions as UDF convenor was also remarkable.
