Price of SUPPLYCO subsidy items to be revised
The cabinet has extended permission to SUPPLYCO to revise the price of 13 items, which are sold on subsidised rate. The price was revised by providing a 35% subsidy on the open market price.
As the subsidised price is kept 35% less from that of the open market, the goods, which are priced Rs.1146/- in the market will be made available to consumers for Rs.940/-. In this case, it will entail subsidy benefits to the tune of Rs.506/- to consumers. The decision was taken as it was released that subsidy prices should be revised scientifically and reasonably in order to ensure the sustainability as well as continuance of the system.
The last revision of price of subsidised items was made in 2014. In the past, the prices were revised in 2013 August, 2014 August, 2014 November and December 2014. Huge difference between the prices in the open market and subsidised prices have ensued due to the price rise in the market during the last 10 years. This has resulted in huge financial burden for Supplyco.
On an everage, around 35-40 lakh families are coming to Supplyco every month to buy goods. Through its interventions in the market, Supplyco incurrs an average monthly liability of about Rs.35 lakhs and an average liability of Rs.425 crores per year on account of subsidy.
